a really bloody shot of a messed up landing of a jump...you know, get the bike and rider in the air on the first bounce. Remember, take 5 or 10 shots form different angles to make sure you have a really good composed and exposed shot. Explain the effort involved, the medical bills, etc. Then you'll have a winning shot!
It's rather simple. The answer is NO. Whether it's a crowd favorite or not depends on how well it is done, much like any other photo.
It certainly helps to have an interesting, colourful subject, in action, with a person in it though, compared to say a chess board or some water in a sink.
Assuming both equally well taken/ lit etc, I'd probably vote higher an a shot with a human, doing something interesting.
I think like anything, the quality of the shot is first.. but i think there are some general rules.
a great shot of someone on a bike in the air (a shot with 'wow') is going to get high marks.
a poor shot with 'wow' will get poor, or high poor marks.
and to contrast.
a good kid or pet picture.. will score high...
a poor kid picture or pet picture will score VERY low.
