Sportsshooter is THE MOST AMAZING site (sorry dpc admins) but that site has been SO valuable for me!! The photographers on there are the best in the world, and truly inspiring... if you are into sports photography that IS THE PLACE to be, and also for photojournalism. Great post G :-)
Not to highjack the thread (the photos are definitely amazing and inspiring and worth taking a look), but if anybody could provide some feedback on these sports photos, I'd appreciate it. I'm considering joining SportsShooter, but to become a member, you don't just pony up the money, you have to submit a portfolio of images and be "approved". I'm not sure if my sports work is good enough, or if I still need a lot more practice. Any feedback, especially from existing SS members who have been through the process, would be appreciated.

I'd say that some are obviously much better than others and a big part of the process would be being able to spot those ones yourself.
Not sure if that's helpful or not - the advice I got on portfolios was to never show bad work. You'd be better with 5 great shots than 10 with a mix of great and mediocre - as it brings the good ones down too.

These shots are truly amazing work.
I have a sequence of shots (35mm Film) I did of Nolan Ryans pitch at Ranger stadium using the EOS 650 that I always loved.
I need to scan and frame them!

The winner of the student sports photo, Max Morse is actually a friend of mine, we were both in the city last summer so we hung out a few times. He had the MLB association internship last summer, and he is definitely someone to watch for in the coming years for both sports photography and sports photography editing. :-)
