BANFF/LAKE LOUISE - DPChallenge Forums

Hello everyone
My friend and I are going up to Banff and/or Lake Louise for some shooting and we wanted to get some good shots of the mountains with the sunrise. Just wondering if anyone else had done this and if you have any good spots that you found??

In my personal opinion spend time at Morain lake & less at Lake Louise
(difference of 12km) i dislike Banff as it is over "tourist'ed" but good to experience once ...
go a few km up 96 & see Herbert lake !!! also excellent ...

Thanks! :) We're not going until August,so hopefully it will be good weather..but I know the weather here is VERY unpredictable! (I live in Calgary!)

Also,I just looked up pictures of Moraine Lake and oh my goodness! It's gorgeous! I've never been there,but I'll be going now!

Tough to get "Sunrise" shots at those spots because the peaks interfere with the horizon ............ but, the waters are very still in the wee hours and the dew is usually quite heavy. I agree with Ralph, Moraine Lake is much less congesetd than Lake Louise and both offer up some great images. If all possible, try to get some elevation on either location and start clicking. Overall, tough to get a bad photo of the area.

I've got a gallery of shots from Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper here. The sunrise shots I liked the best were actually taken just off the road from Calgary to Banff. If there are any locations you want to know where the shot came from, let me know. I can probably mark the location on a map.
