I took this on my way home from work last November. My fiancee really likes it and wants me to put it on DPCPrints... I'm not really a big fan myself and doubt it will ever sell but thought I'd ask if you think it should be cropped. I could crop it down to the tower itself but then I lose some of the lights.
The top of the frame is a darker blue since I shot the picture through the windshield in my vehicle.
The CN tower is the tallest free standing building in the world and the view from up there is fantastic! The large orange sign below the tower is where the Air Canada centre is - where the Toronto Maple Leafs play - Go Leafs Go! :)
In general, you crop to remove distracting elements, put the center of interest in the right place (e.g., a "rule of thirds" point), or adjust the balance of the photo. In this case, all of the elements are useful, the photo is well balanced, and the center of interest (to me the wide point of the tower) is in an effective place (dead center, in defiance of the "rule of thirds", but it works here). So I wouldn't crop this photo at all.
Don't crop it. The street lights are half of the interest in this picture. :)
If you cropped this down to just the tower you'd lose way too much resolution. If you want just the tower, try taking a picture of just the tower from a lot closer. If you have to crop 50% of the picture, why bother taking the shot in the first place?
I agree with everyone else...no cropping required If you need to crop at all to accomodate a certain print size, then try to keep it to just the plain sky above the tallest light. To me, it's the only place that has anything to give up.
