Yeah, Harvey. I, too was confused by the color scheme of the home field but I didn't have time to ask the folks that invited me out. I've looked through all the photos and the paint really does appear to be green while the uniforms are blue.
You've caught some good action here. On most of the images the background is sufficiently far away to be blurred, making your main subject stand out perfectly. On a couple though, protecting first and winding up, a shallower depth of field would make the background less distracting.
Yeah, most of those were shot at f/4.5 but at such a distance the DOF is just too deep. This was just a test shoot so that I could prepare for next weekend when I'll be shooting action shots for the seniors. At that shoot I'll be using the EF 70-200 f/2.8 L (IS) so I should be able to get a lot narrower DOF in the photos. Thanks for the comment.
Leaving one finger outside of the normal finger slot is common. Players feel it gives them better control of the glove. Some gloves even have a loop on the back side for the outside finger. Usually the one left outside is the index finger. I never thought of it as a signal to the batter, but I guess it could be.

Yep, I know, I do the same thing, but normally it's the index finger they stick out. From the photo it looks like his middle finger is sticking out (if it is, I like it). You'd have to be a real good pitcher to get away with it, or monster gonads.
