Not much to say except that it's not manipulated in photoshop :) it's really blue. Now i know some biologist photographers will cry out there's no such thing as a real blue rose, and thats true. This was probably a white rose originally, and just "drank" blue dyed water. Either way, it's blue :)
that was mostly my intent.. i shot this in manual mode and chose the largest aperture available at that zoom (F2.2), using the shutter speed required to get accurate exposure.. i like cloeup flower shots that how shallow DOF.. gives them a dreamy feel, and shows them differently than we do with our eyes.
We had to special order the rose. Blue roses are usually associated when they are "given by someone who passed away" .. my mom will be drying it and giving it to my cousin's girlfriend. My cousin passed away from cancer a few weeks back and we couldn't have a blue rose in time for the funeral.
despite the reason for having the rose in the first place, it's interesting to see a flower in an unusual color :)
Actually...we used to have a blue rose bush that we planted over top of my dog's grave. You have to give it lots of alkaline or something to keep the roses blue, but they were blue for a few years. Actually more of a purplish blue, but it really does exist. Not in the stong blue here...but it's definately bluish.

i've heard of that heather.. i beleive thats the closest they've came to makeing a blue rose.. there's always a "tint" of purple in it. Thats because there's no true blue "gene" in the rose.. so until they can genetically engineer one, we'll either have to fake it, or get something thats "close enough" hehe.. in my case it was faked, but boy is it blue!
