... a great combination.

Our department had a farewell party last night (and, yes, my hangover today is severe) at which I had a chance to test my new speedlight with the D70.

These photos are straight out of the camera, except for resizing and sharpening. The speedlight had a diffuser attached and was aimed directly at the subjects. Camera - handheld. Shutter speed 1/4. f5.6

If my memory serves me right, with the diffuser on, you should have the speedlight pointing up at 60 degrees. I don't believe the i-ttl works with the diffuser, although I may be wrong on that. When you position the flash directly at your subject without the diffuser, then you gain the benifit of the i-ttl and the auto-fill flash. I'd like to see some tests of the two mode, to see if there is a difference in the behavior of the fill, with and without the dome with the speedlight pointed directly at the subject.

I did try a number of angles, both with and without the diffuser. The i-ttl doesn't work with the diffuser, but I found that this combination gave the most pleasing results.

Direct pointing without the diffuser produced a very harsh light, even though we might expect i-ttl to compensate for that. Having the speedlight at 60 degrees produced an underexposed photo every time. The ceiling wasn't so high at about 3 metres, so the bounce should have been possible.

I need more time to get used to the speedlight...
