I just tried it in Photoshop and it worked great. Here were the steps.
1) Copy the background layer
2) Apply Gaussian Blur to that new layer
3) Add a mask to that new layer
4) Click on the mask thumbnail and select the gradient tool, then drag the mouse on the image creating a gradient in the mask |
I'm using PSP X2, but close enough. That worked. I was creating a new mask from the image, and wasn't getting the effect I expected. And I couldn't get rid of the checkerboard background (there's a name for it that escapes me just now). I guess copying the raster layer and working on it is the way to go then?
