Should I start to make my challenge entries blatantly obvious?
Yes, if you don't want to hear comments like that from a pretty small minority. If you put too much explanation into the title, some people will get annoyed at that (like me) and might ding you a point.

This would be hilarious if it weren't so true. In the 'movie title' challenge I Googled up a movie database and used it a lot. I'm not much for movies. You just have to accept the more obscure the reference, the more people won't 'get it'.
Well, technically it may be a "camera", but c'mon...this is a photography site, what did you expect? I for one, anticipated regular cameras, you know the kind used for photography; not movies or videos.
If you do decide to go outside the anticipated box, then the image needs to be unique and interesting, not a snapshot-ish type of image. During voting I gave this a generous 4.
Video cameras and security cameras are regular cameras - they are used all over the world to capture images.

True, but what do you think of (or most people anyway), when someone asks the question - "Do you have a camera?", or "What kind of camera do you shoot with?". The large majority are going to think of a 35mm or digital camera used to take photographs. And again...this is a photography site, so that first response to "camera" is going to be even stronger.
I was mostly responding to the OP's surprise/disdain at the challenge entry perhaps not being rec'd so well...

My shot is sooooo meets challenge it hurts, so when you ask, "what did you expect"? I expect general common sense and a modicum of intelligence...
I can't believe the narrow mindedness some people suffer from. It says in the description, any camera, fairly simple to understand. Some nitpickers nitpick just for the sake of nitpicking. ;\

Fair enough! I agree with your assessment in that context and agree that we need to remember that everyone comes into challenges (and voting) with a very different perspective. The "Expand Your Mind" comment was more for the general audience and not a specific slight at you. Cheers!

Not sure if you're addressing mine, but it was not a "snapshot" type image, but a planned shot. Sorry I couldn't get the soldier into the studio to appease one voter.
Incidentally, your narrow-minded view of the topic is your business, but for the record, this video camera actually DOES take still shots as well. Lines are blurred nowaways my friend, with video taking pictures, cameras taking video and cellphones doing both.

I'm quite aware of this (video still captures) as I have a decent Sony digital video camera that has capture capability (uses an SD card for stills). I still don't think of a video camera as a "camera" in the general sense, especially here on a photography website. Again, JMO.

To stay on topic...camera can be any camera IMO, but...the shot still has to have appeal and be interesting. Having said that...my first "thought" when hearing camera is still photography but interesting or clever shots of other types of cameras could score will if done in an interesting way.
