I was also pretty torn about maybe entering this one ... but I just decided to go with the composed image rather than the found shot this time:
I can't say I was very surprised at where I ended up, but I was surprised people couldn't seem to figure out what it was. So here's a different view....

I think you entered the correct one. I think the trees in the longer view are a distraction, while your entry is more compositionally focused, and the "highlighting" of the single name in the foreground (a technique I tried to use in my entry as well!) helps make the photo more of a "story," rather than just a "scene."
this was before I cropped it...and I really wavered between the two a -lot- and finally stuck to the cropped... 27 scores below a 5 so I wonder if the outtake would have done better? hrm...
