Shenandoah Saturday - DPChallenge Forums

Made a road trip to the Shenandoah's this past Saturday (May 24th) and met up with a friend of mine, (former DPC'r 'nova'), Ray.

It was a bit breezy, no clouds, and bright sunlight - but managed to grab a few shots early in the day (Shenadoah's May 2008).

All shot with my Sigma 50-500, and most are straight from the camera JPG's (couple had minor crops).

Any thoughts/comments are, as always, certainly appreciated. :-)

How close were you to the deer?

You lucky ducky! The last time I got that close to a deer I had to swerve out of the way! :)

left a couple comments, all great captures. Ive heard a lot of good and bad about that lens but looks like it preformed excellently for you :)

Thanks Sam. The focal length on the exif shows 280mm (or 420mm @35mm). Took the two close shots from the vehicle, hand-held with shutter speeds of 1/45 and 1/20 (have to love IS!). I'd guess they were about 40-60 feet away. They were quite nervous about my stopping and soon crossed the road in a hurry. :-)

In the early hours up there you do have to drive slowly. Hard not to anyway! :-)
