I currently shoot with a P&S Canon PowerShot SD1000 as I don't have alot of cash for a SLR. I will soon be picking up an SLR (Thinking Canon Rebel XTi as it is within budget) All of the pictures in my portfolio were taken with my SD1000. The SD1000 doesn't give me much control over settings. That being said, I was hoping people would critique the composition of the pictures in my portfolio (10 or so) rather than the image quality itself.
Keep in mind the caveat though: Beware that some consider this "rule" to be a cure-all, or an iron-clad rule, when it is neither. Knowing about it will help you though.

I read your comments about touching up some of the images. I have photoshop as I am a web developer, however i haven't used it much for touching up images. I am going to look at doing this now, but I have a question. Am I better to have my camera save the images as RAW files instead of JPEG? Does that give me more ability to edit? Or am I okay shooting to JPEG?

RAW will give you more flexibility, but needs more work to get a usable photo. I am still getting the hang of it myself. I use RAW when I know I have difficult lighting conditions or I want to ensure I have the most flexibility. I still shoot JPEG a lot when it does not matter as much and I want to fit more images on a flashcard.
I didn't think a compact like that SD1000 would do RAW, but I assume that question may be curiosity for when you do upgrade.
