In cases like this I wish they could give a freebie self-dq. I mean this is obviously in the wrong challenge. I like how a lot of people deliberately didn't vote on it.

I don't think that's the reason for the 10's and 8's...
1) Some people may have tossed it a high vote out of sympathy and to offset what they likely knew was going to be a low scoring image.
2) Others may vote what's assumed to be a low scoring image a higher number to offset lower votes given elsewhere. Not necessarily kosher, but feasible.

Based on your first post, it sounded to me like you thought some people gave that a higher vote based on the image quality without considering the challenge topic. I could see that if it was an outstanding photo of a cliche image (dramatic water drop for example) in a challenge that didn't fit...in this case (no disrespect toward the photographer) but the image is NOT worthy of a 10 on it's own. Because of this I figured there was likely some other reason(s) for the odd vote.
And to answer your last question, yes, the votes were likely made "in ignorance of challenge topic".
What I thought was funny was how many people didn't grasp that it was simply entered in the wrong challenge. Obviously it was a sepia shot and there was a sepia challenge going on at the time, so it's pretty reasonable to assume that it was just a mistake. So I thought all the "can't you read English, read the rules next time" comments were funny.

In a case like this it's pretty obvious without my pointing it out for the 53rd time, that they're in the wrong place, so I don't vote but try to leave a comment that I would have left had it been entered properly. They've suffered enough already!
