G'day All,

I'm having some issues trying to find focus using the HOYA +1 +2 +4 Close-up filters set.
I'm not able to find focus at all with one, two or all three filters attached to the lens. I've tried using them with my 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses; still, no joy.

I assume there is something I'm not doing right. Could you guys help me out?
My camera body is a Canon 400D.

Your help, advice and suggestions are muvh appreciated.

They are very difficult to focus with, the field of ficus is very small, ie. the distance that the lens can focus. Normally your lens will focus from something like 30cm to infinity, with the +1 Close-up filter on that will be something like 20cm to 21cm. With the +4 on that will be reduced to something like 10cm to 10.1cm. I don't use the +4, the depth of field is pretty useless IMHO, the +1 or +2 are not as bad.

Start with just the +1 on. Then the easiest way to start is to hold the camera to your eye (don't worry about focusing or anything) and move your hand towards the lens, you will see it comes into focus pretty close to the lens and the field of focus is very small indeed.

You then have a rough idea how close you need to hold the camera. Once the object is in that field of focus the camera should be able to auto focus. Do the same when you use the +2, the field of focus will be smaller and closer. I never got the +4 to auto focus and the object needed to be about 1cm from the lens!

Okay, so I have the exact same things, and have had some fun experimenting with them, but was wondering if anybody else had the same problem I did: Namely, that I would get substantial amounts of condensation and fogging developing between the end of my lens and the filters. The formation was very sudden, and I live in a relatively dry climate (although it was rather humid that day). Regardless, I could be shooting fine, and, with no temperature change, suddenly develop prohibitive amounts of condensation/fog between the filter and my lens. Anybody know why?
