THIS (minus the vignetting)

Basically you just play with the sliders in Lightroom:

* take recovery to 100
* take fill to 100
* add a little black for some contrast
* take contrast to 100
* take clarity to 100
* take vibrance to 100
* bring down the saturation to where you almost lose all of your color. NOT BLACK AND WHITE
* go back and play with your exposure and blacks to make the image acceptable

That's basically how I did this photo, which was DQ'ed. But it was my fault anyway for not checking my mail to see the request for the original.

Anyway... that's not the point. The questions is simply if this method of PP'ing violates the basic rules or not. As far as I understand the rules, it doesn't, but maybe I'm just overlooking something?

Looking at the before and after, it is illegal as you have added a vignette, which wasn't there in the beginning. I realise your OP states minus the vignetting and while I am not an SC member, it appears to be legal as you haven't made specific selections...but to be sure, please contact SC and ask there opinion directly.

As long as vignetting is not used, the rest seems basic-legal as far as I can see.

I've been told by many members that anything you can do in RAW conversion, which includes everything you listed, is legal under Basic except for applying a vignette. It goes without saying that it is not legal to create a selection except for cropping or creating a border but that's not something that applies to RAW conversion as far as I know.

For the challenges I usually keep things pretty simple in terms of RAW conversion so I've not actually tested this assumption out nor have I confirmed this with a member of the SC. Although from various threads I've gotten the impression that all of this would be fine by them. Keep in mind that the Basic Rules are treated as "tool based" rule set unlike Advance which is a "results based" rule set. In other words, if a tool is allowed in Basic you can use it to the extreme but that isn't always the case under Advance. Does that make sense?

Please note this is just my opinion. If an SC doesn't chime in fill out their contact form.

He said "minus the vignette" which I took to mean other than that is the rest legal? That said, it is always good to mention that vignettes are definitely not legal under basic.
