My wife and I will be visiting CT for a week in June. We will be at the Foxwoods Resort. I am hoping that maybe one of you can recommend a tour that would take me through the farm lands and such. I imagine a tour isn't needed for the seaports, but thought it might be good to hit all of the farms and sugar shacks etc.
Most of my knowledge of Hartford is based on things to do on a break between Boston and NYC. The two I can recommend is the Luminist painting collection at the The Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, and the Submarine Force Museum in Groton, which has some of the best grinders ( heroes, subs, sandwiches whatever you call them) in the world nearby.

You've probably already been to the Mark Twain home on Farmington Avenue. Or downtown to that, once fabulous (is it still?), Constitution Plaza with the boat shaped building with the glass facade. Route 44 in either direction is fun to travel. Go to the Bradley Field Aeronautics Museum and look at an engine (circla 1910) that my grandfather built, called The Elbridge Engine. I think it's one of his 3-stroke aircooleds but I could be wrong.
Are there still tobacco sheds in the area?

I've certainly heard of Mystic (Bear_Music told me), and I've been meaning to make it down there - looks pretty darn great actually.

if you're interested in that kind of thing. All of my original material has gone to the Smithsonion or Bradley Field, but I still have a complete photographic file of copies...
Well then I will have to take credit for striking it up. What town are you in? The Wadsworth is a quite good; Brennan absolutely correct, the Hudson River School Painters are in good supply at this place.
If you get to New Haven, make sure you get to Pepe's, Sally's or Modern Pizza, the holy trinity of Pie; there still are tobacco sheds, the finest shade leaf wrapper tobacco in the world- used on Cubans clandestinely all the time. Mystic is good for Ships, tall ships at times, rustic beauty;
Gillette Castle is a nice place to shoot on the CT river. The litchfield hills have a shitload of hiking trails, as well as the cornwall bridge and Kent Falls, white flower farm and nature preserve in morris/litchfield.
Let me know where you are I might know some things.

Well, the leaves start changing colors in late August 'round these parts and are usually best in September. First frost usually happens the first or second week of October.

Rob Zombie does live just down the street... But it is the most tame place on earth weather and animal-wise. you are more likely to be attacked by an insurance company worker.
