I used to love Samy's, but they've lost me as a customer for good even though I only visit LA occasionally. Their in-store markup is obscene. The sales staff seem to have better things to do than cater to some peon amateur or someone who's not a Pro or Hollywood customer.
My advice is to go to Calumet:

As for other stuff, well, Calumet is close to Hollywood Blvd. That's worth a drive, a bit touristy, but it's worth it to check out Grauman's Chinese Theater and the walk of fame.
A walk on Rodeo drive to window shop is pretty amazing too.
Drive down Sunset Blvd towards the beach. Don't forget to eat a burger at the Sunset Grill across the street from Guitar Center. If you're a Don Henley fan, or even if you're not, you've probably heard the song "Sunset Grill". This is the place that inspired the song. |
