He was very talented but I would have to say Robert Plant is the best vocalist ever. This is a very subjective topic so you are going to get an array of different singers.
Best front man ever sure. Perhaps not the best singer, but a better guy to front a band there is not.
Best front man and entertainer then hands down its Elvis Presley. The guy had more charisma and looks in his toes then most singers have in their whole body. The guy from skid row performed in phantom of the opera and I think some other broadway stuff after his group went downhill. Does that mean he is one of the greatest singers?
While I was/am a HUGE Queen/FM fan, I would hesitate to ever burden his legacy by attempting to bestow such a blatantly irrelevant and unprovable title on him. He rocked - that's for sure, but best vocalist ever? Strictly subjective with no possible data to back it up.
FYI - Fat bottom girls make this rockin' world go 'round!

I believe that Freddy Mercury was a musical genius. The intricacy of his work is AMAZING.
A couple hundred years from now he will be considered as we now consider Mozart and Beethoven.
That is all.
Man, he had such a tonal range, and depth to his soul. You can hear the richness of it, especially in his sol work, have you heard him do the Opera, he is good

Ok - tonal range... no-one (and i challenge anyone to find someone who does) can beat Danni Filth from the Death Metal band Cradle of Filth - the guy can hold a pure note scream which goes against testosterone and into the realms of top end female opera...and then some rather deep growling.
Oh and just so all musical infulences are taken into account here - as for tonal range and good voice (Danni is a bit growly tbh) Mariah anyone? Whistle register and just over 4 octaves range...
