I might have a few extra dollars to spend to start building some studio / photography basics beyond my camera and tripod. I have the Sony 717 w/ HVL1000 (I think) flash.
For $100 or less, what would you recommend for my next investment? I have seen in so many of these photos how lighting and the knowledge to use it can make or break even the best composition. I am mostly interested in people photos and don't do much at all in the way of indoor macros...occasionally an outdoor one, but lighting is generally not an issue as much.
I also do a lot of photography at our church, which uses a large multipurpose / gymnasium type room for most functions (including worship). That room is a bear for photography! High ceilings and a combination of lighting.
What kind of set up am I aiming for and are strobes or floods the higher priority? Maybe suggest a good place to read up on very basic studio lighting (hopefully with lots of photos!)?
