I was hesitant to enter this image
I didn't seem particularly DPC friendly to me. No distinct subject and very abstract. I decided to enter because I really liked the image and I don't want to get in the habit of catering to the voters at the expense of creativity (not that they are mutually exclusive).
I was fully prepared to take the low 5 score I predicted.
I am thrilled that an image like this can garner a 6.35 here.
It is really cool, though it did not come up for me in my 20% that I voted and commented on. I would have probably given it a 7.
I've often been surprised. If I think something is a surefire 6, it bombs in the low 5's. If I figure a low 5, I'll sometimes get a 6 out of it. One consistent thing I have noticed across the ones of mine that have gotten over a 6, is they all had great clarity and detail right out of the camera.
I really liked it, and in fact like many of the better abstracts I've voted on here, the longer I look, the better I like it. It's very well seen and well shot, and a refreshing entry.
my bad on my voting on this challenge, I am sorry I didn't vote for this..... certainly would have given it at least a 7 if not more. as many will come to realize I try to think outside the box and look for ideas that "everyone" will do, looks like you did the same here, good job

Why do we continue to care what 189 people we will never meet, who will never hire us to shoot, who will never buy a photo from us, think.

Of course we care what other people think. Why else enter a photo contest? I only posted this in contrast to a lot of postings talking about how the voters don't take the time to really look at a entry before voting, that images have to meet a certain formula to do well here.
We enter for a lot of different reasons. One of which is hoping for a high score and recognition that goes along with it. We also enter to have an outlet for our creative expression, or to show a vision, or any other various reasons.
But to come here, enter challenges, click the update button and then say it doesn't matter begs the question, What is YOUR point?

It was in my top 3 (I gave 3 9s) - I also noticed the dragon on the left, and still can't figure out if it's "real" or just a product of the reflection/refraction.

I liked this image very much, actually, and I share your sense of "approval" that the voters did as well. It goes to show that just about ANY type of image, done well enough, can score well, even if it is *easier* to get a high score with a more conventionally appealing image.
But you know what has ME bemused? That nobody has mentioned? The challenge was "Reflections Without Mirrors", right? And, technically, that's ALL mirror, dude. The whole building is sheathed in mirrors, very large mirrors. ALL those reflective-glass buildings are nothing but giant mirrors. So, technically, that's totally DNMC, right?

You know, I thought I'd dinged for that too. But actually those are windows, at certain times of day they aren't nearly as reflective. The sun has to be hitting it just right to get that kind a reflective quality.
I thought about the fact that the whole building is a giant mirror, but decided that those surfaces are not what we normally think of when we talk about a mirror.
Goes to show that even someone like me - who thinks being on topic is important - is perfectly capable of applying reason and keeping an open mind.
