Never try to take a picture of somebody singing Kumbaya. It's bad luck. Didn't your momma teach you anything? Seriously, it may have worked better if they were in front of the fire or if you weren't so close to the fire. Just a thought.
Thanks, Chinstrap. That looks better cropped. I kept trying to keep them as a couple. I tried reversing it with the fire on the left side. Didn't seem to look any better. I just don't like all the white in the fire!

I read that when taking a bon fire shot don't focus on the fire but on someone behind the fire. I tried to bring up a picture without luck. But it is in my workshop folder in my portfolio.
Camelotnorth, That would have been nice to know. Makes sense, too. I don't why I didn't try that. I guess, sometimes the obvious gets overlooked.
Is your campfire in your portfolio? I didn't see it. But I did see a photo of some mice...very funny photo.
I'd say manual focus on the people, keep the shutterspeed up to catch the fire without overexposing the core and use fill flash (that means let the flash 'flash' with a lower ouput then it tells you to, you don't want them to looked errrmm... flashed) to get a good exposure on the people. I wouldn't flash from the camera, but from a low angle by cable or remote.
Ever thought of not including the fire itself in the shot?
If you just can make the suggestion of them sitting at a fireplace singing songs there's enough fire imho to have been allowed in the fire-challenge. To make it even more obvious you could try to get the fire reflected on the guitar.. Those things are usually nice and shiny! :)
A shot of just the guitar reflecting the fire could do nicely too..
Hi mOTiVe and welcome. I love the idea of the fire reflection in the guitar. That would make an excellent shot. I'll try that one for sure.
For the fire challenge though, it would have had to have some kind of flame in it to meet the description. The voters are quick to point out if it doesn't meet the challenge word-for-word.
