Going on a couple vacations in the very near future - will be diving/snorkeling in very clear water...thinking of buying a waterproof housing for my Oly-5050z and wonder if it's worth it?

Has anybody taken their digital camera underwater in such a housing? What kind of results can I expect? Will I need anything else?

Thanks in advance for any comments/advice you throw my way.

1) Try searching from the main forums page; I know this has been discussed before

2) A "decent" (i.e. safe and effective) case will be pretty expensive, especially relative to that camera's current "value"

3) You will liely end up with very cool pictures to which everyone will responde "Oooh, I want one of those things!"

Ikelite housing for Oly 5050

Expensive ($600), but they do the job.

There are also EWA Marine systems that are more like extra heavy plastic bags that are about $150

Also, you may want to look into a wide converter for your cam since the field of view is narrower underwater.

thanks - as for a specific housing, was looking at this one PT-015

and was wondering if any decent images could be captured underwater with a simple setup or if off camera lighting/etc would be required to get even marginal results...

I'll try to find other posts, but would still appreciate comments anyone is willing to throw at me.

Hi! I have the PT-018 for my Oly - it's fantastic. Everything works great. I haven't actually used my camera underwater yet, though - just in the water for some surf pix and stuff - I bought it more to protect the camera than for any other reason. You can find 'em pretty often on eBay - brand new - for around $150. I'll probably try it out underwater this summer as the water warms up, on vacation, etc.
