I was just wondering how other photographers find the time to shoot for the challenges. With work taking up 5 of my possible 7 days leaving me only 2 days to shoot. The weather is acting as a major hinderance at this time, as most of the weekend seems to be grey with flat lighting conditions.
So I guess how do you make time to shoot while working, or how do you adjust for flat lighting would be my real questions.
Ya, if you live up north, it's hard this time of the year. It's dark by the time I get off work and so I'm left with indoors or the weekend. Sometimes I get it in, sometimes I don't. Actually overcast skies are nice for shots like waterfalls.
I struggle with time also, so I take my camera everywhere I go. I bought a sling type bag that's easy to carry, I keep the challenge themes in mind and I am always looking for opportunities. Last thursday was a great day for me because my work took me to a place where I found an excellent subject and got some great shots (for this weeks challenge). I also try to have idea about shots in mind. When I knew I was going to work that I would be near such and such I'd start planning out my shots in my head on the way.
You mean you're not immensely wealthy and therefore spend 23 hours/day (gotta eat sometime) shooting? ;)
I end up shooting a lot of stuff the day it's due. Birds was one exception, where I actually made plans to go to the zoo yesterday and spent a couple of hours at the bird house.
I have two young kids on top of a full-time job, so basically I just do the best I can. It also helps when I plan ahead so I can work it out with my wife. She has her things she does on her own, and I do this. :)
My time is also limited to mostly weekends. Last Friday and today Monday it was sunny, but Saturday/Sunday was cloudy all day. Overcast lighting from the sky is like being under a giant diffuser. Electric and battery power for strobes, or long exposures at night.
I try to have alternate indoor plans or adjust to the lighting situation. If you are a professional photographer you have to adjust to the time frame that a certain photo is needed by (Journalism/Stock). And I'm sure it even rains on wedding days.
