Paying members already have Member-Only challenges. This would be something to entice Non-Members to participate more. Even if the reward was only a Month, it would at least be something of value. It was only a thought. Also, I said every once in a while, not every month.
Actually giving them a month 'trial' as a prize could also help generate more member sales. Once people have had a taste of two (or three) challenges a week for a month and an update on demand button it would be hard for some to go back to one challenge a week and an hourly update.
I think enough non-members do participate, look at the current open challenge. Members paid to get the extra challenge and the option to still submit to the open challenge. Sorry if someone wants to participate more become a member.

I think offering a "prize" for winning a challenge (on this site) is wrong. I'd be much happier with my little blue ribbon.
i agree. once prizes are offered, then everything gets much more serious... it is nice to keep this fun and friendly. and like was stated before, when DPC is selling something (membership) it would not be wise to deprive the purchasing memebers something.. (a prize)... if there WAS a prize for a free membership, why should it be limited to the non-members... members should be able to win it too.
but to my first point, i think it is best to keep it a no-prize site for now.

How would that make me happy?
If you are not a member, and want to be, just pay the $25 and become a member. If you want to try it out, that is why DPC has registered users and Open Challenges.
Relative to the cost of even a cheap P&S cam, DPC is a bargain.

If you are going to have some kind of "reward" for a nonmember who wins, it really needs to be in place for those who are already members, as well.
I don't like the idea of non-member challenges (and contrary to some's belief, it is not because I'm elitest, or have anything against non-members, as has been accused in the past when discussions similar to this started), mainly because it is just not fair to those that paid. To me, it would be like having a membership to a gym, or wholesale club, then that establishment telling non-members they could use it at certain times for free.

A possible challenge with more then 1000 entries and a couple hundred DQ requests.
Edit. Why did I finally join? More potential challenges, scores in member challenges seem to be more accurate, been hanging around enough.
Why stay a member? Can't live without the Update button.
I love the site just the way it is. The best award you get here is learning. So, the more you participate the more you learn. I think that learning is already far enough prize for $0.00.
