Well I knew my spectacle entry would probably get some weird comments. These don't really bother me but i was wondering if I should report them as I dont recognize the names and if they are people who just got on here to troll around i dont want others to get hit? here are the 2 comments in question:
You could attempt to educate them on what you were thinking, or that you welcome contstuctive criticism, and 'stupid' isn't helpful. If they're gonna take the time to comment, at least say something useful.
I have one on my Time Release entry: "This picture sucks.". The commenter registered that day, and had only voted on 10 shots at the time of the comment. It made me laugh, because I'm a member of Team Suck, and decided to take the comment as a complement.
To answer the original question, you report a post when it violates the site's TOS -- when it uses unacceptable language or constitutes a direct personal attack. I don't think either of the comments you cite reaches that level.
Merely expressing an opinion with which you disagree is not a reason to report. Besides, ask yourself whether someone else reading that comment would think it reflected unfavorably on your photo or on the person who posted it -- they will not be anonymous once the voting is over.
i had one comment on an image that i found really disturbing,; it put my image into a whole new, and deeply unpleasant light. i know i frequently go for subtly dark, vaguely threatening imagery, but it is subtle, and the menace is beautiful...
anyway, i PMed the commenter, and, very politely, explained why i was so uncomfortable with his comment, and asked him to change it. not change it to something positive, i have no problem with constructive criticism, but one that was less creepy. he PMed me, apologised, had not realised how the statement would be taken (english wasn't his mother tongue, i don't think), and went back and changed the comment.
