I got a request for validation of my photo (send original file, etc.) and I can't figure out why. I will have to ask this question again when you can see which one is mine, but it's a very straight forward kind of shot. Are photos sometimes randomly "audited" ? Anyway, it's no problem as I have already sent the requested info. I guess I'm just puzzled.

I think this is where a lot of the requests come from.

There's not a rule anywhere that you can't post a photo someplace else online before entering it, is there? I didn't see one. I did post my photo (taken during the shooting period) for some feedback from some friends on another site.

We usually don't let you know why it's requested to avoid offering the opportunity for "corrective" action.

This is fine, although we would discourage you from directing a lot of DPCers to it before the voting is over. But having it posted elsewhere gives people the chance to request DQ for being out-of-dates or copied from someone else.
if the image is validated then the person/persons requesting the DQ should contact that person AFTER that challenge and give their reasons for the DQ request.
I did this on an image a while back ago and the photographer was very thankfull I told him why I requested the DQ.
But if the image does get DQ'd then the photographer should be contacted by the SC saying what the results were and why the DQ was enforced.
GeneralE is perhaps being too polite when he says it is fine to post a challenge entry elsewhere. That practice should be very strongly discouraged for the same reasons that we don't allow discussion of individual entries in these forums.
Why not wait until the voting is over to show your entry to your friends? That way you can tell them how well it did in the challenge. And if any of them are DPC'ers your integrity will be intact in their eyes.
