I will be moving to Hawaii in September 2009. I have to do a year in Thule Greenland first and I don't get to Thule until August 2008. Not that any of this matters to you, but I thought I would share anyway.
Just got back after spending most of November there. Be sure to head for the Northshore as it is big wave time. Might even be some surfing championships still going on. I was there for part of the Triple Crown of Surfing but the big stuff did not rollin until I was gone. still, I saw them riding 10-15 footers.

I would like to see this, I will only be on the honolulu island and not traveling as I am mainly visiting my daughter who lives there with her mum, I have been to Maui and to the big island when I worked for JTB in Japan, beautiful. I have not spent much time in Honolulu and do not really know the best spots to go. My daughter will be at school during the day so I will have a lot of free time to kill.
Be great to meet up with someone (even non DPC) to hang out with and shoot.
The heart of the Northshore adn the Surf Capital is the little town of Haleiwa and then stretches from there north and east to hot spots Waimea Bay, Pipeline, Sunset Beach and points in between. Haleiwa is an hour or less from Honolulu by way of the H1 adn H2 freeways.
The other photogenic and less populated side of Oahu is the east along Hwy 72 past Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach, Blowhole and Makapuu Beach.
You can go just about anywhere on Oahu during a day of sitseeing but beware of traffic during peak hours on the main highways.
