Well I'm off to do my first every Christmas party... the Organization says they expecting over 200! I've made my list, I've checked it twice... and if all goes well tonight I could make enough for that D300 I've been pining for :) I'm nervous as heck cause I've never done anything of this scale before! wish me luck... hoping for some great pics to share later!
Well, I survived the party... just barely!!! good thing I had some really good help or it might have been a complete meltdown!!! here are some of the pics... not my best work.... but not bad under the pressure of the night...
The first thing that strikes me is that the WB is quite cool. I don't know what setting you used. Normally in a setting like this, you'd set to Flash WB, but if that's too cool, you can warm up the shots further with Cloudy. Or, it's easy to adjust in post processing. The lady in the red dress looks fine, but the others are a little cool. Great little mini-studio setup though, and the poses are great.
I don't know.. call me crazy (and you wouldn't be the first) but I've always gone a little cooler than most... possible a bit too cool... but I guess that's my style... ish... :)
Ok, you're crazy! :) It might be worth checking your monitor calibration to make sure you actually see what you are getting. If your monitor is too red, then you'll be adjusting it more blue to look good on screen, but it won't come out right in prints. Although if you've had prints, and you're happy with those, then you probably know what colour you are going for. :)

Well I definatly don't want them looking dead... on the other hand they don't look all that dead on my monitor (calibrated with Spyder) and they definatly don't look dead in print
The question is, did you make enough for that D300 you've been "pining for?" :)

nope not quite enough, after expenses etc... but the good news it I have another one coming.. and school band photo's.... that should make things up quite nicely, and maake it a merry...er Christmas

Who's doing the printing? It's pretty normal for the printer to compensate for color casts when they are obvious. If they are coming out of a lab looking terrific, then I think that is what's happening. I know EXACTLY what they'd look like on my Canon 9000 pro printer, based on what they look like on my monitor, so unless I did some color correction somewhere in the process they'd be cold...
I did the printing on site with my Epson 1400... on the other hand I used my Laptop (un calibrated monitor... should do that before the next one)... prints came out warmer than on screen I think... they also tend to a little bit when I print from my PC, but not as much... not sure why
