My first photo in my first challenge is up there being scrutinized by all you wonderful people and I have to say that the comments so far are quite varied. Lots of good ones, a few bad ones, a few wise-ass comments that really are not much help, but the whole process is very interesting. I'm truly glad I found this site and hope to learn a lot.
I too am receiving comments on my first challenge submission. As with mpmcgeehan, the comments are quite varied -although no wise-ass remarks to this point.
This is a great site. One thing I've noticed going back through earlier challenges is that many comments seem to be out of the context of the challenge.
Also, there seems to be a wide ranging perception of what creativity is and how it applies to making photographic images.
i have never gotten a genuinely mean remark, except for 'dumb' from iban, who is known for being 'eloquent' and therefore instantly dismissable : ) ..
i feel bad for those who have. I also wonder sometimes if people may be interpreting things with too much sensitivity. This is after all a public critique forum.
Without seeing the comments themselves, though, I can't comment on that. : )

They were mean. And totally lacking in any reference to the value of the picture itself. I thought it was a fine picture, appropriate to the challenge, no major problems technically, interesting and humorous. Sorry I didn't comment on it at the time.
Bah, people who make fat jokes and other ridiculous statements in their comments simply establish to the rest of us who they are and what they care about, and we can ignore their opinions from then on. It's actually very helpful of them.
Personal comments made instead of useful criticsim of the photographs helps no-one. Ignore them or if you feel that stongly pass them on to Drew/Langton.
Thanks to everyone's reply about the bad comments I got. I really do think those comments have no place on this site and those people should be dealt with accordingly but its not my site, and while they do piss me off at first I do get over it.
