It looks like you know how to upload an image to your portfolio, so I'll use this photo as an example:
If you go to that photo's page, you'll notice that the url (address) is as follows:
//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=592365
Now the image ID, the number at the end is what you'll need to post in a thread.
Use this button when posting to insert a thumb. 
In the box that pops up, enter the image ID... in this case 592365, hit ok and you're done.
