OK, here's one I've just done. Will need to do it a couple of times to get the hang of it.
I'm working in elements 5. If you want to know exactly how I did this (including the writing which is part of the lesson), here is the photoshop link to do this step by step. I'll do it a couple of more times and this will then teach me how to use some tools and then I can think about how I can apply them for other things.
Others may also find this helpful as a learning tool.
I don't know if this really qualifies for overlay but I think it's along the same lines and it will be helpful for many. Sorry if I've done the wrong thing by posting this here.

it looked ok as a thumb, but a disappointment when its opened .. probably a bit too busy .. maybe i should'v realised when i was actually working on it !!!!!!!!!
OK, I think I'm beginning to like the power of photoshop more and more but I have soooo much to learn.
The hand is actually from a statue which is metallic silver. I had taken it with the purpose of using it for something else and this layers thing has helped me become more creative. Thanks so much.

i was feeling down this afternoon and this was the result .. its probably a bit dark in mood etc for most ppl .. the screaming faces arent immediately obvious .. it could be more a subliminal downer for other ppl looking at it tho ..??
