Ok....I'm editing some pictures to print out, and I feel like this shouldn't be happening when I sharpen.
I convert from RAW at 300 dpi and edit. I then use Smart Sharpen, set at 150, 0.7 radius, and lens blur mode. To me, it doesn't look like it's sharpening correctly, as it looks almost like there is a gel filter on the image - this can really be seen in the teeth and the hair line. It doesn't seem like it's noise being amplified either....any help?Unsharpened sharpened
But to my eyes, it seems like it gets kind of 'gelly' like after the sharpening...do you see that too, or is it just the noise I'm seeing that looks that way to me?
I may be daft? Yep, I probably am, but if you are using a lens blur mode, surely that won't help with sharpening? I would have thought the opposite would be the result, a blurry, gel-like image.
formerlee - in the smart sharpen tool, there are different modes of sharpening: guassian blur, lens blur, and motion blur. These different settings are used to determine what type of sharpening to do to fix different problems. I've just heard that using lens blur gives a more refined sharpening than guassian blur does.
But thanks for all the help! I guess it will just have to do, and don't think it will be THAT noticeable on the prints, since the crop is about 200%
To me, it looks like the filter is acting as expected. The original is very soft, and fairly noisy. Smart Sharpen has done a pretty darn good job with it, but the noise has been accentuated. That's the one big shortcoming of Smart Sharpen... no threshold setting is available.
