Ok so how do I do that, I am getting popups every 30 seconds or so and The funny thing is I have the Google bar that blocks popups....what is going on?
No pop-ups here and I've been on most of the day. Try Ad-aware from Lavasoft. Basic version is free for home use. If that doesn't cure your problem try Spybot Search & Destroy, also a free download for at least a trial version.
You could also try Spy Bot A program like Ad-Aware but it finds more things on your computer.
What Operating System are you using? If it's Windows 2000 or Windows XP is could be something called the Windows Messenger Sservice (Nothing to do with MSN)
It's a built in 'feature' that lets network administrators send messages to loads of users on a network. Some dodgy people have been sending spam type messages to anyone that has XP or 2000. You can get a good wee program from here, it's called Shoot The Messenger.
SpyBot is completely free, although you are encouraged to donate via PayPal. It is a great tool, and the "Immunize" feature is great, especially when you are setting up your mom and dad's PC and you want to keep them from accidentally clicking on some ad that installs who knows what...

I use both Ad-aware and Spybot and still get pop-ups. There is a difference between pop-ups and spyware actually. The most effective way to deal with pop-ups, from what I hear, is the Mozzilla browser; you can actually disable pop-ups in the configuration. I would however, still check into Ad-aware and Spybot; you'd be amazed at the amount of garbage that your computer collects; cleaning up this spyware will not only make your system more secure but will also improve your systems overall performance. Another simple option, if you want to stick with IE, is to install the Google Toolbar. It has a built-in pop-up blocker, and it has the benefit of giving you instant access to Google from any browser window. Has some other cool features too. "It's free and takes seconds to install."
I use both Ad-aware and Spybot and the Google bar. They don't filter out everything but they keep it to a minimum. Never had pop ups while visiting DPC.
and also one thing that i think is really helpful is zone alarm. it monitors what is connecting to the internet through your computer.. so when the little nasties like gator or other pop up ad programs that are actually ON your computer try to run.. you can stop them on their way out the door to the internet... the program will ask you 'would you like to let 'gator' access the internet' or 'would you like to let internet explorer' access the internet.. and you can select yes or not... it works really good

Yeh good call Tyler - AVG Anti Virus is a good product. I had a problem with zone alarm so I use Kerio Personal Firewall - its free and its good and its here
