I use the card reader on my Lexmark P707 printer to download the images from my camera to the PC.
There is an option to rotate the image BEFORE downloading..which I have been doing on images which were taken in portrait mode.
Unfortunately, this removes some of the EXIF data and could lead to images being DQ`d.

This came to light after one of my submissions was under scrutiny for missing data and I thought I would post this in case anyone else has a similar set-up and is unaware of the problem.

As always, it is best to transfer files to your harddrive as they are originally in the camera, then make a copy, and then work on rotating, and other edits on that copy. File away the original.. and be sure to give your copy a name with an indication as to which original it belongs to. Some people rename, for example "DCF389" to "2004 New Years". If you have similar shots, how would you know?

Due to my relative inexperience in all things digital..I had to get a few red herrings out of the way first Karen. All the things you mention to do..I was doing and couldn`t figure out what was going wrong.
I didn`t give a thought to rotating the image before downloading as being to blame ..anyway all`s well that ends well !.
