I am new to this forum and new to digital photography, so please forive me if this question has been answered many times. If the largest dimension of a submitted picture is 640 pixels, are most people taking the original shot that small or shrinking larger photos? If shrinking, what softwares are people using to maintain the image quality?

I take the largest size possible on my camera and resize it down with photoshop. You can resize with most photo editors.

I do as moodville, but use Apple's iPhoto (cropping, preliminary edits) and Graphic Converter (final edits and resampling).

It is generally understood that your pictures look better when shot at the largest size your camera can do. I use Paint Shop Pro 7 to resize them for dpc. If you don't have a program to resize yet I'd suggest IrfanView as a starter. It's free and you can download it here:

Thanks for all the responses. I just figured out that I could easily reach this thread through my profile. I use Paint Shop Pro as well and have experimented with some resizing options with good results.
