Heading to Bandon, Oregon the 7th through the 12th for some golf (At Bandon Dunes)...only playing 27 a day so I will have some time to roam the coast and see what I see. Anybody have any suggestions for things not too far from Bandon??
Oregon ranks 4th in Cranberry production and most of the Cranberry bogs are around Bandon. I'm not sure when in the fall they get ripe (Oct I think I read), but if they are red during your stay, it could make for some neat shots. The festival is Sept 8-10th.
All along the coast near Bandon are cliffs and off-shore rocks to photograph as well as that lighthouse. (You can drive right up to it) There's an interesting bridge and some sealife nearby. There is something of an 'old town' in Bandon, and a water treatment plant that has some GREAT mural work. The crab, icecream, and dairy products are pretty wonderful there, as well as the cranberry bogs. Ask a native where the bogs are, they are hard to find otherwise. Also some lumber yards. But the coastline is just super.
Drive out on Beach loop and you can see "Face Rock" and walk down on the beach during low tide and see some great stuff (anemones, starfish, etc). You can also drive inland toward Coquille or Myrtle Point on the back roads (only 30 minutes each way) and get some great photos of ranches, barnes, mountains, creeks, etc.

ETA: If you want a close up of the Coquille lighthouse you can go across the bridge (42N) and turn left to Bullard's Beach ...drive on out and you can walk right up to the LIghthouse. (not sure if it's still open). You can even rent a Yurt at Bullards if you're feeling especially outdoorsy! :)
I'll definitely try to find a bog or two, and the lighthouse. Otherwise, I'll roam the coast until I find something that looks perty. And, of course, I'll get my usual fill of golf course shots.
