I know most of you guys have probably seen, night shots with lights with little "stars" around them. These I know are caused by aperature blades. I was wondering if a a higher aperature, 8.0 would produce more "star-effect" than a small (well actually large) aperature of something like 3.5?

the smaller the aperture, the more diffraction you get from specular highlights on long exposures, so the answer is yes.
