Obviously, it's your call but remember that continuous lighting may cause your subject to begin sweating while strobe lights don't produce much heat. You would probably want to get a flash meter when you get strobes. If you're going that way, remember to look at softboxes, barn doors, and other "attachments" and be sure that they will fit even if you don't buy them now. Continuous lighting may be too warm for softboxes and you'll have to devise something else.
Personally I like strobes but they ARE expensive compared to continuous lighting equipment. If you go with strobes, only buy the ones which have a low wattage preview bulb. This lets you visualize the lighting as you set it up.
