Does anyone advertise on Craig's List? I put an ad up, and I keep getting e-mails from perverts wanting nude pictures of themselves (all men). I think I really need to remove the letters GIRL from my e-mail and web addy.
Irrespective of the word GIRL or not you will get spams through Craigslist. Don't let that bother you, you will also get some decent calls back, I have been advertising there from over a year now and have built some nice contacts! and this is at a small place like Ithaca!

craigslist works though. I am in the bay area and craigslist has helped me find stuff and sell my camera equipment or buy.. its also good for apartment/housing. Not sure about photographers/models
I just don't know how seriously to take these requests. One backed off when I said I'd be bringing an assistant. The other didn't seem to mind it so much. My boyfriend says I'm not allowed to do those sorts of pictures. Normally, that would guarantee that I WOULD do it, but I don't think I'd like him taking pictures of nude women and he's concerned for my safety.
A deposit usually weeds out the not serious. Schedule the "shoot" for the following week and say you need to get a deposit in the mail before and you will call to confirm the date once you get the check.
If they aren't cool w/ an assistant be careful. Why would they be comfortable w/ a total stranger photographing them but not OK with an assistant? Tell them for safety reasons you require someone to come with.

Actually, the person I had in mind is about 6'7" and weighs 400 lbs. If he wasn't available, I was hoping to drag along one of my brothers. Anyone who has ever seen me can imagine how big my brothers are. Then, there's my son who is 6'3" and weighs about 250, but still has a total baby face.

I will say this. If you are considering shooting men nude, you'd have to figure that another male staring at his nekkid body may make him uncomfortable...which is why they are backing out of the shoot. Even worse when the assistant is this HUGE guy who is going to make the 150lb guy you are shooting look "inadequate". I would either consider a female assistant or make sure it's clear that your huge male of a bodyguard (not really an assistant) will be in a separate room.
Someone mentioned asking for a deposit in the mail...UM...NO. Put yourself in their shoes.
"Yes, I'll take your picture...just mail me $100 and I'll call you when I recieve it!!!"
Do you put all these constraints on people who contact you through your website or just those who contact you through craigslist??

i was the one who told her to ask for a deposit. It really is the way to go. You get an address and mail a contract and they mail it back w/ a check. Pretty simple and it weeds out the people just messing around and all the model releases and contractual stuff is done.

Everyone I have done work for up until now has been people that I've known at least casually, and the shoots were usually in a public place or on my turf....not theirs.
