I am thinking of purchasing the book Photoshop 7 Artistry. It appears to be for the more advanced photoshop user, but could a novice make good use of it as well? Opinions on the book would be welcomed. Thanks!

I am not personally familiar with the book, so I'll be of no value there, but you might try to find out if they will be releasing an update that would cover the changes in Photoshop CS. At that time you might be able to get the older version quite cheaply.
