Went to the local park and captured some seagull shots over the weekend. Critiques welcome.

Very cool photos. My favorite is 4294w. Your B&W ones are great too. Good job.

I'm jealous! real nice work.
I need to get that third lens I have been wanting!

Until then I called the local pro shop and they are going to rent me the lenses I need at a very reasonable price.

I'm going to sell my EOS 650 film outfit and I was also thinking of selling my Nixvue 20 gb portable drive with LCD to get some other equipment I could get more use out of :)

wow! Pretty fantastic! Did you have to pann to catch any of 'em in flight?

Great shots! My favorite is 4368

Calvus - just so you know, I shot a bunch of flight shots with my Sigma 105 Macro including my action shot.
You don't always need a 300mm. Take a look at the last 38 of these bird shots They were all with the Sigma.

I have done that also but the DOF is so shallow I find it to be very tricky.

I'm more use to the 70-300mm. I use to visit the wildlfe sanctuary in Upstate NY all the time and I like the idea of planting myself in the brush or etc. and have the flexibility of not having to move around and disturb the birds and etc. I found they always came closer if I stayed in one place and sorta became the fly on the wall so to speak :) I use to love photographing the migrating geese at the sanctuary.

I think this is just another one of those things that falls under
"What ever floats your boat"

LOL

I did check oout your shots also and they are very nice!

I panned on all of them. I set the camera to adjust focus with the movement of the subject, then kept the bird in the center of the frame as best I could and snapped when it looked successful!
