I took some nudes for a customer yesterday, and she has a scar from a surgery, that runs from hip to hip across her lower stomach. I have been trying to remove the scar using cloning, healing, etc... and I just cannot make it look natural. Anyone have any tips or links to websites with a tutorial on scar removal, etc...? I'm sure it can be done using cloning and healing, but I obviously don't have the skills. I would love to post the pic here so you could all see what I am talking about, but I promised her that the photos would remain private and nobody else would see them.
Do you think you could send a 100% crop of the area to someone and let them work on it? That way they wouldn't have to see the whole shee-bang, but you could still get some help.
I agree on cropping the section. The healing tools should be doing the trick. Hard to know why they aren't without seeing it.
But anyway. don't try using the spot healing tool. Try the healing tool itself. work on a new layer (sampling from all layers) and sample skin that looks similar to the effected area. If it still looks "unnatural" you may fade the new layer and allow the scar to show back through some.

Since it was a scheduled shoot, and she wanted the scar removed, it would have made sense to use some make-up on it at the time to minimize its visibility in the first place -- fixing it once on her skin is a lot less work than fixing it individually in each photo.

Or simply adding a belt or wrap of cloth. Fabric is your friend in boudoir shoots :-)
Also, one tip if you end up cloning some more, or even healing.
Keep your finger on the alt key (or whatever it is on the Mac) and re-sample the copied-from area as you go over the are to be fixed as the light changes. Re-sample over and over, working in from the outside in, as if you were actually encouraging the skin to grow over the scar, if that makes any sense. Don't be afraid to start over, each time you do, you'll learn some more.

GeneralIE I know, I should have gotten her to use makeup or a piece of cloth of some kind. Bad me :( Luckily, we tried to work around the scar for most of her shots, so there is only a few that I have to fix the scar.
