For those of you who aren't familiar with it, PPChallenge is a site I setup for photo post processing challenges in a format quite similar to DPC. It's open to all DPC users.
In this thread, terje invited DPC'ers to edit one of his beautiful landscapes. I've PM'ed him, and he said we could use this image in this week's challenge over at PPChallenge!
This is very cool, since many of us won't ever get to use equipment that nice and visit a place so beautiful.
This week, I've up'ed the number of entrants to 32, using DPC Advanced Editing rules with the 720px and 200kb limits. You're encouraged to start with his RAW file, but I've made a JPEG version available for download. It should be fun!

If you have not checked out PPChallenge.com you need to do so. I have entered some challenges and find it a great way to home in on your editing skills. Jeff smurfguy has done a wonderful job with this site. Believe me, if your a novice or professional at editing, you will will have fun at PPChallenge.com

There are already a couple edits of this shot from the thread mentioned above. So we're all on equal footing, feel free to check out those examples.
Also, please only register for the challenge if you're able to participate. If you sign up and then find you don't have time to edit, please unregister so somebody else can have your spot. The challenges are limited so we don't have a million slightly different edits of the same shot to vote on.

Thank you. Well, I used to promote the site more here in the forums, but it takes time. Plus, the site's a little rough*** around the edges and really needs more refinement... but it works-ish, so we play with it. =)
But I had to announce this week, because I think many people think editing is taking a junk image and trying to squeeze something acceptable out of it. No, the true joy of editing is taking a beautiful photo and making it really shine. And Terje's given us that chance this week. And it's fun to do so in a challenge format.
***: An example is that it can't handle changing usernames. So Brad is BradP on my site, and Scott is SouthernGentleman, because that's what they started with. Also, no forums, rough commenting system, and a file-system database because I didn't know MySQL back then, but I guess users don't care. =)
Glad to see PPChallenge come up in the forums again. I've participated a few times and sent in a couple of images to be worked over. There's always something interesting to look at on that site. And it's not as *rough* as Jeff makes out.

Thanks, I had never checked on ppchallenge but now that I have it is a great idea. I've submitted my Terje work-over, but I have to admit I wanted to stop before doing any processing it was so beautiful! I had to keep reminding myself that I had to do something to it, LOL.
I guess I just always thought ppchallenge was for "expert" editors and I didn't realize the rules were the same as dpc. Thanks for this opportunity Jeff.
I run most of the challenges under DPC Advanced rules, as these are usually the most interesting, and occasionally I throw in a "basic" and an "expert" style challenge.
I don't want to take all the credit, though. nshapiro and maybe others used to run these challenges in the forums, and I just wanted to make it easier to administer and more like DPC.

Absolutely. The site thrives on photo submissions from the users. You can submit photos here. At present, I choose an image weekly out of the the submissions. I maybe should add an "email me when you use my photo" option.
Anyway, as I said before, I think it's most fun (and site participation is highest) when the photos are interesting to start with, and maybe have some technical flaws which editing can improve. In other words, don't take a picture of gravel and ask the editors to "Make this shot better!" =)
It's also important to note that, by submitting a photo, you are not releasing any rights to it, except for users to edit it solely for the purposes of the PPChallenge website. I have tried to emphasize this point on the site.

You know, since it's a bunch of edits of the same image (as opposed to different photos here at DPC), I don't think that recognition is as big of an issue. Besides, I think most will vote based on the comparisons between the entries, regardless of recognition.

Actually, I was referring to the expert editing steps I used on it. I created some elements in it. Anyway, just more of a general question about the rules. If I were to enter I would probably try something different than what I did before.
