Very nice bird photo. Nicely cropped and focused. One thing I noticed though is that the colors are a little dull. I hope you don't mind, but I ran it through some very simple photoshop techniques and came up with this...
All I did was adjust the levels. I set a white point (using the little eyedropper looking tools) as the brightest point in the white feathers. I set the black point as the color of his eye! Then I just used the sharpen filter and voila!

The only other way that I know of to get the colors to brighten up is to use LOTS AND LOTS of light and I don't think pepper would like that too much... I find that critters don't like the flash going off in their faces. In fact any time I bring out the camera now, our cat goes running! Just because I forgot to turn off the flash once...
Yeah, I was using two lights, and I guess he was getting hot, because he started getting really loud,and hyper. Hes a rather zealous bird, and if u get a chance when hell sit still youve got to have your camera ready. BTW, did you get my PM?
2) Under layers, make an adjustment layer for levels.
3) Click OK in the first layer properties box. Another box should pop up with a graph looking thing and some buttons and some eyedroppers. The eyedroppers are for Black Gray and White.
4) Click on the black eyedropper and find the darkest spot in the shot (I used Peppers eye). You should see the whole shot change shades. Now click on the white eyedropper and find the whitest part of the shot (I used the brightest white feathers). The shot should change again. You can also slide the little sliders on the graph around to make even more adjustments. I did not do this on this one...
In the above steps you are making adjustments on a layer. This is like a filter that you are looking at the original through! If you want to make different adjustments latter, you simply select the layer, go to the layer menu and select Layer Content Options. This makes it very easy to re-do, un-do, adjust things that you have already changed!
5) Select the background layer. In the filter menu, find Sharpen and select Sharpen. This will make the features jump out of this picture. In other pictures it will make more or less of a change. In this one it worked nicely!
I then just saved the file using Save for Web and uploaded!
Hmmmm... Under the graph, play around with the slider on the left. It should help darken up the shot a touch. I gotta go to bed now, but I'll check here tomorrow to see if it worked out for ya and to offer more pointers if no one else does in the mean time...
I have an Alexandrian Parakeet (Female) I use to keep her wings clipped and take her outside all the time. She is very tame. But she does not take to everyone very well.
I use to take her out and photograph her on a low tree branch in the front yard. She loved going out, but my neighbors have three cats so I was always a little nervous! LOL
I probably should have my parents take me to have his wings clipped again. He is beginning to be able to fly, and I want to take him outside again. My neighbor has a sun conure, and when the birds were young, I used to take pictures of them together, but then the sun conure got some contagious sickness, and I cant do that anymore. Also, you say your bird doesnt take to everyone well. Pepper, (my bird) will most likely bite you, until he gets to know you.
