I think anyone that scores an image a 3 or below should be forced to comment as to why. That should stop some of the troll activity I've seen around here, or at least point out the trolls for the council to deal with.
I suggest you go to the main Forums page and enter "mandatory" into the search field. You should find links to some dozens of pages of interesting reading ....
Are: "This sucks!", "This blows!", "My dog can take a better picture!" comments really gonna help anything? Nah, I don't think so. Some pictures are 3's and below, the ones that aren't that do get some low scores, well, such is life. If everyone is getting some low scores, then don't all the images average out as a result?

Right now I have pics in three challenges & my scores keep falling. Sure I wanna know why but not so much that I want to enforce mor rules on people. Even the best shots get low scores. Do we really need to know the lame excuse as to why people voted that low? No, we don't. People vote according to their likes & dislikes or for whatever reason they vote as they do. Let them be!
And persoanlly, I dont like the term troll. I mean, basically it seems that any voter that votes you down without an explanation is a troll? That's really lame. What does it say about us & our own intolerance if we are calling epolpe names for no reason?
I'm sure I'm gonna get more low scores than I care for & sure I wanna know why but I'm not to get that at any expense. Let's leave things the way they are.

Rooster, not really what I meant. Trolls are those that rate a 9 or 10 photo a 1 or 2 and get away with it. I've seen pro-quality photos on this site get many 1's by "trolls". I've been on the internet since years before the web even existed, and I am well aware of the meaning of a troll. I just like accountability.
There is a system in place to deal with anomolies in the voting as I queried this with DPC after my first entry jumped up from 5.1 to 5.3 in the last five hours of voting.
They explained that they have an "algorithm" set up which helps eliminate spurious voting.
I think it should be easy enough to spot people who deliberately vote low for every picture as this would show up on your average vote cast figure...it would be somewhere between 2 & 3.
It's naturally upsetting when you get some low votes; I was not a happy camper earlier today when I realized I'd gotten two 1's in a row on an image that WAS scoring around 6.0...
Nonetheless, if you look at the distribution of scores for any image, even high-scoring images should be expected to get a few very low scores. Rare is the image that is so good it doesn't get at least a few 3's. I've seen very little evidence of any significant "troll" vote.
I personally vote below a 3 only rarely, and I probably only give one or two 3's per challenge. Others may vote differently...
If you are going to insist on comments on scores of 3 and below what about comments for scores of 8 and above? Both ends of the voting scale deserve comments.
I just feel that attaching my name to a photo would allow the photographer to see if I were one of those 1-3 average people. If you look at mine, I"m like kirbic, I think I've only given 1 or two 1's since I've been here. If prompted, I would be happy to explain, but the artist could click my name and see my average to know that I didn't just make a low vote for bring their score down.
Remember guys/ladies, I'm only making a suggestion to try and help, not create an argument.
I hear you & since our memership births here at DPC is only a few minutes apart, I want to be extra supportive to you. I get your point and understand the suggestion but there are cons to it. Maybe folks would vote less or something. I just think that adding more restictions and/or rules takes away from our freedoms & our choices. This already exist in our world (Especially in NYC) I dont need it to replay itself here on a site I love & spend a lot of time in.
I rarely give low scores but when I do I put the score, a comment and why I thought it wasnt the best shot ever. I take responsibility fro my scores. Thats me. Just bc I do it & want it to be done, doesnt mean I think everyone else should do it. But thats just me.
