I just "finished" voting on the December Free Study, and it said "...you have rated 194 out of 198 images." WHAT?? It is not showing me any other images, and of course I know that mine does not count, but it still doesn't add up! Anyone else ...?
I believe that DQed images should remain as part of the challenge. For Example...
- If an image is DQed during the voting period, it is simply removed from the voting and put under a DQ heading on the "Rate Submissions for the Current Challenge:" page.
- After the Challenge voting is finished the photos are placed on the last page of the results for that challenge and all given a score of "0" and all recorded votes discarded. This would mean that the DQ does count as part of the users overall score average. These images should also have an explanation for why they were DQed.
- Under the "Photos > Browse" section of the site a DQ sorting option could be added.
Benefits to other members on the site would be:
- Avoid the confusion with the numbers not adding up. Lots of people have been confused about this lately.
- Allows user to see what images were DQ and why they were DQed which would allow users to learn from others mistakes.
Just my thoughts. What do others think? I think the DQs are really getting out of hand lately.
Not a bad idea, but it would mean even more work for the site Admins. They are busy enough as it is weeding out the people who make submission mistakes and the cheaters.
Also, some people might look at this as a "Wall of Shame" and be against it.

Personally, I'm against the idea of DQ'd images being made available. If they were still "available" to challenge viewers, there would be less incentive to submit a shot that followed the rules, since even if your shot was DQ'd, it would still be in the "challenge archives". Having it completely removed, along with all the comments, etc. is, in my opinion, one of the deterrents. If somebody wants to add the shot to their portfolio after it is DQ'd, they are free to do so, and it won't be available in the context of a challenge. I don't see a benefit to having a "wall of shame".
In addition, there are rules that govern what is "acceptable content" for challenge submissions. By having all DQ'd entries removed from the site, it allows the admins to remove content that is deemed unacceptable without worry of it still being visible.
That fact that DQ's are getting "out of hand recently" has been discussed in other threads. With any luck, people will quit submitting illegal shots once it becomes "common knowledge" that we are doing our best to validate the top-placing entries.
Yes, I can also see this point of view. I would then suggest that the challenge numbers be adjusted to be accurate then. For example, right now the numbers are out of wack for number of photos in challenge and it also throws off the percentile numbers. If the challenge started with 150 entries and 5 are DQed, the number should be adjusted to 145 and not left at 150. Things not adding up just drives me crazy.
However, I do think it would be interesting to have some sort of counter that shows how many photos were DQed for each challenge just as a FYI type statistic.
