Nope, I like the one you submitted better. The only thing I didn't like about it was the harsh flash... and I think the focus point is a little off from the front line of men (where I think it should be).

I liked the face in the background, I just thought that it being out of focus (obviously since you went macro) and somewhat grainy detracted from a cool idea.
Chariot, I think i like the one with the face best too.. it shows a 'sense' that the game is being played and it doesn't look like a standard still life...
Another variation could have been to have a hand moving a piece on the board.. there are lots of possibilities with that photo...

I prefer the one with the face. it humanizes the image and also gives the pieces scale. I think this would be a better advertisement than just a shot of some sterile pieces.
I took a very large number of pictures of my setup, since it was rather painstaking to create. Ultimately, I ended up going with the most straight-ahead, vanilla, literal interpretation (sorry, I know that doesn''''t say a lot for my opinion of voting patterns : ) ) but I''''m curious for some perspectiove and to see if maybe I didn''''t call it as well as I could have : ) There are 3 or 4 alternates here .. You can also see the box I set up the gravel and marbles in ... oh joy

i think i should have just taken the time to make it a better picture. sort of hard to avoid graininess when you have to hold a gun and a camera at the same time. anything less than iso 400 and shit is blurry.
that''s cool, too, but i preferred the gamehunting pic. very humorous. although you might have scored better with this one.

Well, first thanks for the votes. I got lucky on a regualar photo shoot for my daughters High School baseball game. The sunset, the position of the field, the players, the exremely weird weather (4o degrees in May!) which contributed to the sky color and shape all gave me a nice photo.
My oriignal was actually more interesting to me and my edited version for their school yearbook is better than my submission I think here.
But the DP rules say NO PHOTOSHOP so I had to crop a little differently for my submission.

I like the one you posted best. The other ones were either had a weird shadow effect going, were too close, and then there was that one with the funky blue color.

No. I like the dog-hunting one better. There was another candy land picture that was black and white and I just don''t understand why you wouldn''t want to use the full range of colors that the game offers. There is also a really nasty glare on the right side that I do not like.

The other idea I had was to take pictures of "Life" boardgame. I ended up liking the Risk figures so much that I didn''t bother. But 2 days ago I decided to try anyways and this is what I got.
i like the edited one, minus the spot edits : ) . .
it's a really great picture-i'm not particularly into baseball but you managed to really impart a mythic quality to the figures. good job.

i thought that the closeup shot might be cooler because the way the light shining through th emarbles made them glow, and was so much more pleasing than the rather jelly bean effect i got shooting them straight on. but i guess we'll never know . . . : )

Thanks. I thought about the spot edits for a long time. I am one of those folks that likes photos to stay as original as possible but....
The post under the catcher looked like he was getting a pole enema (this coming from one of the players on the team that saw the photos) :-)
The wire behind the umpire could have stayed or not.
I'm not a big baseball fan myself but my daughter has a boyfriend on the team (he's the catcher) and I seem to be going to a lot of games for some reason :-(

yes, candyland is pretty colorful. i just went for the nostalgic effect, and in the end, thats probably what turned me off to taking a color picture of candyland. aside from my fear of submitting something that turns out to be painfully cliche. the glare was not intentional but i ended up liking it; as a result, each player peice is doing something different.
