I have a 55$ gift certificate for amazon.com and I was thinking about using it on one or two digital photography manuals, intermediate level. Any suggestions anyone?

I would also benefit from any suggestions for Photography Manuals. I am new to Photography and would love to get some feedback on manuals that would help me come up with techniques and spark ideas for the weekly challenges.
For Christmas I received a Short Course guide to my Camera written by Dennis P. Curtain, it is a manual approximately 128 pages long that goes further indept into the functions of the camera than the owner's manual does. He offers many other short course books on various other cameras, it would be worth checking it out to see if your camera is available. I just received mine yesterday and haven't gotten a chance to really look at it for to long but I can see already that it has a world of useful information. "The A-Z of Creative Photography" by Lee Frost is very interesting. It goes through and discusses 70+ techniques. The discussions are based on film photography, but almost everything I've read so far can be transferred over to the digital arena. It's handy if you want information about the various techniques out there.
I have only purchased a few books on Photography, but I would have to say my favorite is "Creative Nature & Outdoor Photography" by Brenda Tharp. It is really just a basic/beginners book, but covers the basics of Light, Composition, Color, Visual Design, etc with great photographic examples. It might not be for everybody, though.. so, I'd suggest flipping through it at a local Borders or Barnes & Noble before buying it (as with many books, if you're keen on buying them online).
I was given John Hedgecoe's "The New Manual of Photography". Covers a wide area of photography in every format but all applicable in digital photography.

i just purchased "Masterclass in Photography" by Busselle (available at Barnes & Noble only) and have enjoyed reading it thus far.. not something for the more advanced, perhaps, but it discusses some elements of visual design and has many photographs and discusses their approach/mindset before setting up and taking the photo.. however, i'll probably be returning it soon as i found out that it's $10 cheaper on their website ($15.. and ordered another book with it to make it over 25, so it qualifies for free shipping).
