Make it manditory to leave a comment when giving a rateing of 3 and under not just a message pop up. This may help with the random 1's,2's,and 3's that seem to be poping up even on the winning pics.
alas this would discourage people to make votes of 1,2or three making a 4 the new low vote.
How about forsing a comment on 8,9 & 10's, seams just as reasonable :)

I was tracking my votes for a recent challenge and a bag head left the comment "nice" and voted it a 2. It would be nice if constructive and honest comments were left but there is no way to actually enforce it.

I personally would rather 50 votes from intelligent comment leaving voters then 250 voters with 2-4 comments a pic and people giving 1s and 2s to beautiful peices of art.
people would leave comments like "great shot" and give you a 2.

now what would you expect those votes to be? the avg vote from commenters was 3.33 after voting so lets do the math. we assume that the wierd comment was a 1 that means that the other 3 avg a 4.10 but said good things about it.

What you REALLY want is for people to become conformists instead of having their own valid opinion, which they shouldn't have to defend to anyone, not even to you.

I dunno that commenting makes one more intelligent, but that's a good argument anyway. But, consider this. one vote hurts a lot more when you only have 50 than it does if you have 300.

Have you ever stopped to consider that perhaps some of these scores are indeed justified? The mere fact that you may not appreciate these scores does not in itself render these people "bum licks" as you so adroitly indicated, and even if you did find out who left you these scores... SO WHAT... would you then confront these individuals, questioning their reasoning.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion... You may not like it, but that reason alone does not negate their option to express it via their vote.

You haven't been around long enough to know why this whole statement is just stupid, so I'll piece it out for you:
(1) You want everyone to conform to your idea of voting. How DARE anyone give you a 1, right? Let's shame them into scoring everyone higher by destroying vote anonymity and requiring comments and let he who leaveth an insubstantial comment be duly smoted! YEAHHHHH!!!!!! No, babydoll, just no. The only reason anyone ever suggests this is because they're pissed off about their own scores.
(2) The conformists are NOT giving out 1's. They're giving out 5's and 6's. The bell curve typical to every entry shows this quite clearly. the 1 voters exist on the fringes, and clearly the fringes make you nervous and must be smoted.
(3) There will always be 1's and 2's. Those judgments are just as valid as the 9's and 10's, but no one ever complains about undeserved 9's and 10's, eh? Bottom line? The bell curve is quite normal, and you should learn to deal with it.
Now this is a much crabbier post than I generally make, but I'm operating on zero sleep, I'm stressed out, and I definitely don't appreciate being called "missy" by someone who so very clearly hasn't the foggiest notion of what he's talking about, and that lethal combo apparently turns off all my filters. ah you make a very interesting point but you must then respect my point of view of thinking those people are "bum licks" as I had adroitly indicated as you so proudly pointed out. nah I would most like not confront those people on the web site as it is a web site and I am way to lazy to do something that would require so much of a effort... but I stand with what I said and I'd like to point out I never said that 1s through 3s shouldent be allowed mery explained why they are given...
I blame a lot of those 1-2 votes on what I call the nude syndrome. It doesn't necessarily have to be a nude shot. But many 1-2 voters bash (try to kill) photos because they don't like the subject matter. Nudes get a lot of those votes, but so do landscapes, children, dogs, flowers, water drops.
I don't think it's right to vote like that, but have quit condemning those that do, because of this: I give (or should say gave) a lot of 9-10 votes because I liked the subject matter... mostly nudes :-)
Either way, forcing commenting isn't going to change those voting habits. It's going to either make 4 the new one or it's going to stop people from voting.

as I stated in my last reply Iam perfectly fine with ones as long as I am given a reason why to give some one a one and then not to leave a comment is kinda cowardly if you ask me.

... must then respect my point of view of thinking those people are "bum licks" ...
If you earnestly believe that, then I fear you have a great deal of learning to do as you meander down life's paths.
Casting aspersions on individuals, engaging in character assassination, and questioning their integrity is truly not the type of that will garner a favourable response from me, and I would dare say probably legions of others.
I wish you well in your travels within DPC and do hope that you will learn a great deal from all the wonderful people in here.

The main reason I often don't comment on the shots I score lower is that I've gotten tired of pm's telling me I'm wrong by having a different opinion and should rethink my vote.
I do leave comments if I think they've really tried and need help, but often it's pretty obvious that someone's trying either for the brown or merely shock value. Those I don't waste my time with.

I understand being mad at a 1 on a image that scores 7.8 but if you make people comment then the browns will have to get all the hundreds of comments and make people waste their time.
