Okay I have a wedding coming up in the summer that im shooting. I have everything elsed priced which I'm not going to disclose because its irrelevant, But im stumped as to how much to charge for the cd. Then also what woudl be a good per hour rate for editing?
I want to say that for the CD we are getting it's like $25. On it are the low res images at like 400x??? Not big at all. And that is so we can't use them. They also encode and hide the pictures so you can't remove them from the cd.

Full resolution wedding pictures? One can't put a price on such things. Just make sure it at least makes up for all the prints you would've sold.
You also cant put a price on not being able to get prints made 20 years later and the photographer died... 150,000 people die a day worldwide why not the photographer!

If that is what you feel comfortable doing than you don't need our opinions. Just go for it. I just can't help but think that most wedding photographers can make more than that on just one print!

I was thinking maybe $50 for the cd
and then $20/hr for editing
$50 for the CD seems rather low. I would balance the cost of selling prints to them with them being able to print themselves. Sure, this may get you exposure and whatnot but don't sell yourself short.
I charge $2000 for a full res CD of a wedding or event. No if's and's or but's. I usually have over 500 proofs for a wedding, and if they want the CD, that usually means that they won't buy any other prints. I want to make sure that I am getting paid for my time and my services.
Are you an experienced wedding photographer or is this your first one?
If you are inexperienced at weddings, you should be charging a flat fee, no hourly editing fee or a fee for the CD or any of that stuff, you don't have the clout to be doing that yet. In reality, you are lucky to be given the chance to even shoot the wedding.
With that said, charge what you think you can get and what you think will be a decent profit. If that number in your head has 4 digits, reconsider immediately. For a first or first few weddings, think around $600 for everything.
your only job for this event is to surpass all expectations. You need this for your future photography more than they need you. Remeber, this is a chance for you to have a wedding in all your marketing material as well as a testimonial from a couple you did photos for. This wedding is for the future of your business.
Just shoot the event, give them a CD w/ say 50 edited photos, give them some originals, maybe a print or two. Let them print all they want whenever they want. Thank them for the opportunity and move on to the next wedding.
The cost of your equipment has nothing to do with these prices. Its final results only! The bride or groom doesn't care if you are using a $50 camera or a $5000 camera, they just want results. Your gear is a fixed cost. From a business side, your costs are your problem. You cannot just charge more because you have expensive gear, thats what they call bullshit. You can charge more when your variable costs increase, ie. number of prints, albums, proof books etc.
